Protectoswitch
Safety Switches
Our presence sensing safety switches can be installed on a variety of equipment to protect operators. The simplicity of design is the key to providing years of maintenance-free operation.

For Simple, Reliable Protection, Choose Protectoswitch
The Protectoswitch is an essential safety device designed to protect operators from pinch point accidents on high-speed machinery such as riveters, punches, spot welders, and staking machines. It features a 24″ straight aluminum probe that is fully customizable, allowing it to be shaped to the specific configuration of your upper and lower tooling. To ensure a perfect fit for various applications, we offer plastic sleeves in diameters of 1 1/2″, 2 1/4″, and 3″ for easy adaptation to the probe’s end.
The Protectoswitch is an ideal way to protect your operators from pinch point accidents.
Presence Sensing Safety Devices – How They Work
When the operator initiates a foot switch to activate the machine, the Protectoswitch intercepts the start signal and automatically drops a probe around the work area. If an obstruction is sensed the machine will not fire until the obstruction is removed. If the work area is free of obstructions, the probe falls to its full stroke, which closes an actuating switch to fire the machine.
Safety Switch Information
Electric

This model uses electromechanical operation to drop the probe and is designed for machines with electrical firing mechanisms, supporting up to 40 cycles per minute.
Pneumatic

Operating entirely on shop air (50–100 psi), this version utilizes an air cylinder and provides a pneumatic signal to fire the machine at speeds up to 80 cycles per minute.
Electro-Pneumatic

This hybrid unit uses air pressure to drop the probe arm but delivers an electrical output signal to cycle the machine, combining pneumatic speed with electrical control integration.

Sequence of Operation
Model SAF-3/93
Pneumatic Safety Switch
Upon activation the air cylinder retracts, the probe arm falls to the work area where the shaft carriage meets the sensing collar causing a pneumatic signal to fire the machine. The start valve must be released and the prove returned to the up position before subsequent operation is permitted.
Model SAF-6N
Electro-Pneumatic Safety Switch
Upon activation the air cylinder retracts, the probe arm falls to the work area allowing the spring loaded switch with roller to enter the detent on the probe shaft causing an electrical output signal to cycle the machine. The Protectoswitch valve is released allowing the probe arm to retract to full up position before a subsequent operation is permitted.
